PlayStation 4 owners who managed to download the Fallout 4 season pass for free over the weekend will be disappointed to hear that their purchase has been revoked by Sony.
A price glitch on the PlayStation Store that allowed users to download the Fallout 4 season pass for free has now been fixed. Anyone who managed to take advantage of the error will not be able to use the pass to download the content, as Sony has chosen to apply an expiry date.
Last Friday, the European PlayStation Store briefly made theseason pass available for free. This situation didn’t last for long, but users were quick to share the information online, giving many customers the opportunity to make a purchase ahead of the DLC being released.
Given that today sees the launch of the game’s first scheduled DLC pack, those who managed to download the pass for free were eager to see if they had managed to cheat the system. However, Sony has rendered those downloads unusable and removed access to the content from users’ purchase history.
All in all, this is a rather unsurprising development. It’s impossible to know exactly how many users managed to nab the season pass before the issue was fixed, but there’s little reason for Sony to foot the bill on this kind of blunder — even if it’s a disappointment to affected users.
In fairness, Bethesda already offered an opportunity to download the pass at a reduced price. As of March 1, the cost of the package jumped from $29.99 to $49.99— it’s thought that DLC plans were still being finalized in the early part of 2016, and the broad scope of the project made a price hike necessary.
The first piece of content included is Automatron , which adds the ability to construct and customize a robot companion. As well as this new mechanic and some new gear, the DLC contains a new questline that will take players to a pair of lengthy new dungeons.
Set for release in the coming months are two more expansions; Wasteland Workshop and Far Harbor . The former seems to be a relatively minor content drop that focusses on trapping creatures and extra settlement design options, whereas the latter is billed as the largest piece of DLC scheduled for the game.
Those two pieces of content are set to follow Automatron in the coming months. Sony and Bethesda will no doubt be hoping that there are no more pricing issues to clean up in the interim.
