captured the imagination of gamers at E3 last year and the community has been anxiously awaiting updates ever since. Although a few screenshots and details have leaked out here and there, the team at Hello Gameshasn’t unveiled an up close and personal look at the sci-fi exploration game until now.
A live demo ofshowcased the game’s insane size and just how small players are in the universe. As the player, Hello Games’ Sean Murray, zoomed out from their starting sun, we saw hundred and hundreds of unique solar systems on the enormous map. Once the scale of the game was demonstrated, the player picked a random solar system and visited one of the thousands of planets available in the game.
No alien lifeforms were detected on the planet before landing, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t full of beautiful and dangerous encounters. While exploring the planet, the demo revealed destructible environments and Sentinels in place to protect the planet from the most violent explorers. Once the player blasted some rocks to demonstrate the destruction capabilities the sentinels showed up to chase him off the planet.
The universe-sized sandbox looks like the kind of game that players will be able to get lost in for hours. Initial assumptions that the game may not have a ton of plot to pull users through the experience still seem to be accurate. Hopefully, the desire to explore will keep players coming back and sinking hours into the gigantic game.
Although it’s nice to see the game in action, there is still a ton that we don’t know about No Man’s Sky. We look forward to learning more details about what else players can do to stay busy in the universe and finding out when the game will be available. Hopefully some of that intel drops in the coming weeks.
