Fallout 3 Fan Beats Game and DLC Without Healing

One truly skilled Fallout 3 player plays through all of the materials for Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic role-playing game and completes it without healing.

After beginning the task about eight months ago, the YouTuber known as Many A True Nerd has completed the arduous journey of beating every single scrap of Fallout 3 ‘s base products and its add-ons without stopping to heal once. Yesterday, he uploaded the last hour of footage from what has been the antithesis to a world record speedrunto his YouTube account in order to share the grand accomplishment with the world.

Calling the series of videos “You Only Live Once,” thefan ended the run with the game’s Broken Steel DLC, as he mounted a successful attack against the Enclave base. As it happens, Many A True Nerd was incredibly close to succumbing to death, as his character’s hit points were down to 93 out of 560 throughout the final leg of the feat.

As seen in the video below, Many A True Nerd’s character build is mainly constructed around having a boost in health and stealth so as to incur large amounts of damage if necessary and to avoid any potential encounters with enemies to cut down on the chance of dying. Although the Fallout 3 clip is roughly an hour long, it’s at least worth it to stick through all the way until the end if only to hear him give a rundown of the statistics for the playthrough.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time that Many A True Nerd has fully completed a Fallout game without using stimpaks, food, water, resting, or any other method to heal. As it happens, he spent over a year on Obsidian Entertainment’s production for the franchise, and went on to beat New Vegas without healing. Should fans be interested in checking out the achievement, he logged his progress in a web series much like he did with Fallout 3 ‘s You Only Live Once, by uploading weekly videos showing his glacier-like movement through the game.

Now that Many A True Nerd has tackled Fallout 4 ‘s precursors, perhaps it’s time for him to move onto the most recent entry in the franchise, and really put himself to the test by beating the game’s incredibly difficult Survival Modewithout replenishing his character’s health. Of course, he may simply be waiting until all of Fallout 4 ‘s DLC is officially released just so it will be possible for him to finish exactly 100% of the game’s offerings. If that is indeed the case, Bethesda has yet to even release Far Harbor, and it plans on releasing even more throughout the rest of this year, which would have Many A True Nerd waiting a while until all of the game’s assets are made available to the public.

What do you think about Many A True Nerd’s no healing run of Fallout 3 ? Would you be interested in seeing him put self-imposed limitations on beating other Bethesda titles outside of the studio’s post-apocalyptic releases? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Fallout 3 is out now and is available for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
