Publisher Activision and developer Treyarch announce the official release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 ‘s Awakening DLC on PC and Xbox One platforms.
As many gamers are aware, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 ‘s Awakening DLCis already live for PlayStation 4 consoles after having launched at the beginning of the month, which has left PC and Xbox One fans waiting to take part in the first of 2016’s expansion packs for the futuristic first-person shooter. However, Activision and Treyarch have now confirmed that theplayers that are currently experiencing the game without add-ons can mark their calendars, as Awakening will be available for all current generation platforms starting March 3.
Thanks to Sony’s and Activision’s partnership for timed-exclusive DLCto release on PlayStation before PC and Xbox, a lot of Black Ops 3 fans still have some waiting left to do in order to get their hands on the game’s new content, as there’s about two weeks in between now and the expansion pack’s launch for the platforms. Of course, as some folks may know, the shoe was on the other foot not long ago, as the game publisher had originally shared such an exclusivity deal with Microsoft’s consoles.
As of now, PC fans and Xbox One owners are missing out on Awakening’s four multiplayer maps (Skyjacked, Splash, Gauntlet, and Rise), as well as Black Ops 3 ‘s new Zombies map known as Der Eisendrache, which contains numerous Easter eggs. Of course, once the DLC finally becomes available across all of the aforementioned platforms, gamers will be able to nab an individual copy of Awakening for $15 in the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, or on Steam, with each iteration housing the exact same content.
While Black Ops 3 ‘s first bout of bonus materials haven’t made it to PC or Xbox One yet, at least those fans can count their lucky stars that they’re not stuck in the last-gen, as Call of Duty players on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 won’t ever get anything that Awakening has to offer. Of course, with the newest consoles having existed since 2013, the fact that Activision and Treyarch even developed assets for PS3 and Xbox 360at all is a wonder.
Awakening is merely 2016’s initial offering of DLC for Black Ops 3 , as developers have three more expansion packs planned for the title. Needless to say, PlayStation 4 players will get first dibs on any of the forthcoming add-ons with about a month-long waiting period for other platforms.
Considering the fact that PC and Xbox One fans have been stranded with Black Ops 3 ‘s base game for now, Activision and Treyarch ought to make a killing once the timed-exclusivity for Awakening expires. Plus, with the most recent entry in the Call of Duty franchise having been 2015’s highest selling game, the publisher and developer will surely be rolling in the dough by the end of the year once all of Black Ops 3 ‘s DLC packs have been released.
