After Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare turned the series’ multiplayer gameplay on its head by introducing exo suits, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 plans to shake things up even more with its introduction of ‘Specialists’.
Black Ops 3 ‘s Specialists are classes of soldiers which each have their own abilities. For example, there’s Outrider who can fire explosive arrows, military robot Reaper who can use a mini-gun, and there’s Seraph whose ‘Combat Focus’ ability adds a multiplier to her score, helping players get scorestreaks faster. And not only this, but Black Ops 3 ‘s multiplayer allows for unlimited sprinting and players can even wall run now too.
These big changes are perhaps why the game’s developer, Treyarch, has set up the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta. With multiplayer being such a draw to Call of Duty and with the series also having such a huge eSports scene as well, many CoD fans are jumping at the chance to test out the online modes ahead of the game’s November release. The beta first went live on PS4 (per Sony’s partnership with Activision, giving PlayStation players access to Call of Duty content early) and this morning, it was scheduled to begin on Xbox One.
Unlike the PS4 version of the Black Ops 3 beta, which was opened to all players in its last few days, the Xbox One version is (so far) only accessible by players who have pre-ordered the game and have received special codes. Naturally, many eager fans logged onto Xbox Live this morning trying to type in their codes in but, unfortunately, many of them were hit with error messages which told them that their codes were invalid.

— Treyarch Studios (@Treyarch) August 25, 2015Following reports of players being unable to register their codes, both Treyarch and Microsoft took to Twitter to address the situation. Treyarch tweeted the above tweet, confirming that they were investigating the issue while a tweet from the official Xbox Support account stated that they were “looking into it”. This was coupled with an Xbox Live service alert that read, “hey Xbox members, we are aware that some of you may be experiencing issues redeeming your beta tokens for Call of Duty: Black Ops III. We are working closely with our partner to get this resolved ASAP!”
While many will be glad that both Microsoft and the Black Ops 3 developer are on the case, that service alert was posted over 8 hours ago and there has been no update either on the service alert (or on the Treyarch or Xbox Support accounts) about the situation since. Many players will also understand that these things take time to resolve but the lack of information as they work on a fix is incredibly frustrating. As a result, it’s currently unclear whether or not the Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta will be extended (as was the case with the Street Fighter 5 beta when that was taken offline for server troubles) but Game Rant shall update this post if extra time is confirmed.
