It’s been a pretty good year thus far for fighting game fans. 2015 has provided fight aficionados with the solid, albeit incredibly violent, Mortal Kombat X which requires users to have skills to be anywhere near proficient in it, while the inevitable arrival of next year’shas been egging on consumers with a number of character reveals. The meat of the content arriving this year, however, has been from Warner Bros. Interactive’s aforementioned gore-filled beat ’em up, and apparently there’s still more for fans to look forward to from the game going forward.

After teasing an announcement yesterday, Warner Bros. officially confirmed thatwill be receiving additional fighters at some point in 2016. Not content with just that, it also sounds like additional skins and a brand new stage will be arriving for the game next year, but specifics on all of this content is currently nowhere to be found.

It’s probably for the best (at least for now) that gamers aren’t made privy to the details surrounding the forthcoming add-on content, as it’s still quite a ways off. Still, speculation is sure to kick off pertaining to which characters will be included in the next major batch of downloadable content. A handful of fan-favorites are still missing from the game, and many are eager to see them make a playable return sooner rather than later.

So far Mortal Kombat X has received a number of well-known characters through DLC. Aside from familiar franchise players like Tanya and Tremor, guest characters like Jason Vorhees and Predator have made for some of the more interesting additions to the title. Bearing the latter two in mind, it’s possible – if not incredibly likely – that another guest kombatant could be joining the ranks of Subzero and Scorpion in the the first half of 2016.

Franchise co-creator Ed Boon already seems to be teasing the previously touched upon stage too, seemingly hinting at the return of The Pit via Twitter. This stage is known for the moon that can be found in the background, so it seems a likely battleground in contention to return. Still, Boon has been known to throw fans off with images in the past, so take this with a grain of salt.

It’ll be interesting to see which characters join the ranks in the future, but it’ll be even more interesting to see how much it’ll all cost. The currently available Kombat Pack retails for $29.99 USD, so presumably the forthcoming content will retail for something similar. That said, the addition of a new stage could raise the price of the content as well, so only time will tell what NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive have planned from a price point perspective.

Which characters do you hope to see included in Mortal Kombat X ‘s Kombat Pack 2? Do you want more guest fighters or should it stick to franchise mainstays? Get at us in the comments.
