Bloodborne is getting its own physical card game, allowing players to compete against each other in an attempt to slay monsters in the Chalice Dungeons.

Fans of FromSoftware’s award-winning title Bloodborne will soon have a new way to play with an upcoming card game, published by CoolMiniOrNot Games. The game will be inspired by the action-RPG’s Chalice Dungeons and the monsters that they contain.

Game designed Eric Lang announced the game on Twitter, claiming that the new Bloodborne content will be “simple but highly deep and interactive.” The game will be officially licensed, with gameplay based around the PS4 game’s Chalice Dungeon runs. According to Lang, players will compete to slay monsters while collecting their blood but must be careful not to die. Judging by Bloodborne ‘s hardcore death mechanic, it’s likely that a player’s death will lead to a loss of blood, and therefore their chance at victory.

The designer described the card game’s play style as “risk management with a bit of group think, inventory management/upgrades, and tactical play in an intense 30 minute card game.” He also mentioned that there won’t be any miniatures involved, though there will be some “sweet components”. Lang mentioned that he has played the original Bloodborne video game and that he reportedly “sucked horribly” at it. The PS4-exclusive title, which is well-renowned for it’s difficulty level, is one of the games that made the console worth a buyin the first place.

The card game is an attempt to channel the intensity and frustration that Lang experienced with Bloodborne into a contest between players, forcing players to act competitively whilst they risk their lives in-game. Of course, in true Bloodborne style, there will be lots of death involved. Fans of board games may recognise the name Eric Lang as a developer who has also worked on other popular titles including XCOM: The Board Game and Star Wars: The Card Game .

Bloodborne enthusiasts are sure to be happy that there are more physical products releasing for the popular title. Just recently, some fans showed their dedication for the game by building their own working Saw Cleaver. The board game will provide some more eagerly wanted content to Bloodborne which only released one expansion before ceasing development with the Game of the Year edition, leaving many fans wanting more.

With the video game ranking highly on many people’s best of 2015 lists, hopefully the card game will follow a similar pattern. From what we’ve heard so far, it certainly seems like a promising idea but it seems we’ll have to wait to find out more about it.

Bloodborne is available now, exclusively for PlayStation 4. There is no release date for the card game as of yet.
