Fallout Shelter Released on Android

Sadly, there’s still some time to go before Fallout fans will be able to get their hands on Fallout 4 , although Bethesda says that the game is basically finished and ready to go , it doesn’t officially release until November.

, it doesn’t officially release until November. A worthy substitute, however, is free to play mobile game Fallout Shelter .

Fallout Shelter is a bit like a pared down version of Fallout 4 ‘s base systemcrossed with Tiny Tower , as it allows players to run their very own Vault-Tec Vaults. The mobile title sees players build different modules (e.g power plants and water treatment rooms), invite new vault dwellers to come and join the vault, and even send some dwellers off into the wasteland to go and fight radroaches and the like.

The mobile game was previously released on iOS, where it has done phenomenally well. In addition to becoming the top downloaded app in 25 countries (and the top downloaded game in 48), Fallout Shelter also gets 70 million play sessions a dayand it brought in $5.1 million for Bethesdain its first two weeks – knocking Candy Crush Saga off of the revenue top spot. While part of that is due to the undeniable brand power of the Fallout franchise, part of it is also due to the fact that the game’s monetization avoids the pitfalls of other F2P games. Buying ‘lunchboxes’ (which provide cards with extra resources) is completely optional and can be earned through normal Fallout Shelter play.

With high praise and high revenues coming from the iOS version, Bethesda is keen to build on that success and reach the many Fallout fans on other non-Apple devices. That’s why Fallout Shelter has now been released on Android, and despite having been released mere hours ago, it already has over 10,000 ‘five star’ ratings on the Google Play marketplace.

Fallout Shelter Mr. Handy update

Fallout Shelter Mr. Handy update

The Android version doesn’t offer any different content to the iOS one, though both versions of the app have received an update today. The update in question introduces Mr. Handy, a character who has been described by Bethesda as “the ultimate robotic companion.” A premium reward, Mr. Handy can collect resources, explore the wasteland or defend the Vault, with Molerat and Deathclaw infestations also being added to the game today.

Plenty will be happy to see this new content added to the game as the time between now and November seems like the longest wait. Given that Bethesda has also added Fallout 4 character Preston Garvey to Fallout Shelter , it seems likely that even more characters and content will join he and Mr. Handy in the future.
