While gamers often feel a fondness for old games they used to play obsessively, going back to actually play them can be difficult. Gamers may not have a working console to play the game on, their TVs may only have HDMI inputinstead of the analog connections necessary to hook up an old console, or it could just feel unpleasant to play older games due to their lower-resolution graphics and rigid controls. For nostalgic gamers in this conundrum, finding out that an old favorite is being remastered for a current-gen console is exciting.

Some game developers devote all their time and effort to bringing back older games to appeal to this demographic. Fans of the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter for the Nintendo 64and PC may be pleased to know that the game could soon be the next title to be polished and re-released for current-gen systems by one of these developers.

In a recent interview with TechRaptor, level designer Samuel Villarreal discussed his work on the rebuilding of a game called Powerslave . However, he also made mention of, and it sounds like the game is finally going to get remastered.

“I was originally working on remaking N64 Turok (called Turok EX ) but it got put off to the side. Since now Night Dive Studios has picked up the rights to re-release it, Turok EX will resume development later this year.”

Villarreal also mentioned that he had worked with Night Dive previously on another ’90s FPS, Strife , which is currently available on Steamand has extremely positive reviews. Given the designer’s relationship with Night Dive Studiosand that he’s apparently already done some work on rebuilding the game, fans of the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter may not have to wait long for Turok EX to see the light.

There have been many games in the Turok series, but it hasn’t received a new entry since 2008 with the remake simply titled Turok . Propaganda Gameswas also working on a sequel,, which was set to return to the game’s original roots, but it was unfortunately cancelled. Despite having only been founded in 2013, Night Dive Studios has already released 37 remastered versions of games, includingand I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream .

Considering how far along Turok 2 was in development, it probably disappointed many fans that it was cancelled. It’s also worth noting that the Turok comic book series that inspired the games was picked up and received 12 new issues between 2014 and 2015. It might be far-fetched, but between the comic and a remastered version of the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter , maybe the game series can still experience a revival.
