Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End director Neil Druckmann reveals that the ending is proving to be quite divisive among focus testers, based on the feedback he has received so far.

Fans have known for quite a while thatwill in fact be the end of the road for series protagonist Nathan Drake. What is not clear is if that means Drake will simply walk away from his adventurous lifestyle or if fate will finally catch up to the character. With the game finally having gone goldas it approaches its final launch date in May, creative director Neil Druckmann has started to open up a bit about what testers have thought of the ending.

Based on feedback from the focus testers, the ending should prove to be a divisive element and is certain to spawn lots of discussion among fans. Druckmann went on to add that a feeling of indifference would be the worst thing, opting to rather have people hate it than be indifferent, as that would signal that the studio failed to reach its goals of making fans feel emotion.

When asked specifically if Drake would make it out alivein the end, Druckmann played coy and gave the answer everyone expects in that he wouldn’t tell. Instead, he finished the conversation by saying that fans should expect Uncharted 4 to be honest to Naughty Dog. The developer worked hard to create a game that best represents what it wanted, rather than what outside people were asking for.

Whenever we make something that’s honest to us that is the game we truly want to play, you know whether you succeed or not. I found that the more we’ve done that, the more successful we’ve been, and that’s the only correlation I can come up with.

It’s clear that Naughty Dog is working hard to make Uncharted 4 the most technologically-advanced entry in the franchise. Thanks to the added hardware power from the PS4, Naughty Dog has been able to not only create some astounding visualsbased on the trailers and screenshots that fans have seen, but the technological detail in the world has also increased significantly. In a recent video, Naughty Dog revealed many of the ways that this game pushes the technologybehind the scenes in new directions, including massive play spaces, artificial intelligence, and even gameplay mechanics.

Do you think Nate is going to make it out alive at the end of the game? How do you think Naughty Dog is going to wrap up this series? Let us know what you think down in the comments.
