became an overnight success for Blizzard as the title achieved both critical and commercial success. The first installment known as Wings of Liberty , which focused on the Terran race, went on to become the fastest selling real-time strategy game of all timewith over three million copies sold in the first month alone.

Surprisingly, it would take Blizzard another three years to release the second installment, Heart of the Swarm , leading fans to worry that the third and final installment, set to focus on the Protoss race, would take a similar amount of time to release. Blizzard finally put those fears to rest as the company finally revealed the long-awaited release date for StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void .

Announced during the StarCraft World Championship Series in Los Angeles, California, Blizzard confirmed that the third and final installment of StarCraft 2 would be launching on November 10, 2015. In addition to the news, an impressive cinematic trailer for the game was also shown off for the first time, detailing the opening moments from the upcoming real-time strategy title.

Recently opening to pre-orders on Blizzard’s online gaming client, Battle.net, Legacy of the Void focuses on the Protoss faction following the events of the previous two titles. Fans can also gain immediate access to the Whispers of Oblivion prologue missions and can take part in the closed beta for digitally pre-ordering the title. Not only that, players looking for a more robust experience have three different collectors versions of the game, each with varying amounts of content and digital items compatible with other Blizzard games like Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm and World of Warcraft .

Thanks to the success that each StarCraft 2 installment has had, producer Tim Morten has admitted that Blizzard is currently mulling over a decision to start planning development on Warcraft 4 . Any decision made would come after the launch of Legacy of the Void , but the news should come as a relief to longtime fans of the franchise who’d love to see the series return to its real-time strategy roots.

November 10 is already starting to feel a bit crowded as it’s the same day that Xbox One players will get their hands on Rise of the Tomb Raider . Not only that, Bethesda is planning to release their megaton giant, which is also coming to PC platforms as well. With a busy holiday season of games, it’ll be interesting to see if any more games get delayed or alter their release date and how gamers decide to part ways with their money in response.
