beta, the developer has released some information to help gamers prepare for the event. Just a few days ago, Treyarch detailed the maps, game modes, Specialist abilities, and weapons that will be a part of the beta. Today, Treyarch provided a few more details about the upcoming beta in a new FAQ on thewebsite.

The most important details are the dates, which Treyarch spells out clearly in their FAQ. PlayStation 4 players will gain access to thebeta beginning August 19th, and will play through August 23rd. PC and Xbox One owners will get their turn starting August 26th, and will have access until August 30th.

As this is the first time a Call of Duty game will include a beta, Treyarch made sure to remind gamers that the Black Ops 3 beta is a chance for players to test the game and provide feedback about their experience, so the developer can make any needed adjustments before launch. Here’s what they said on their post:

“The Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta represents a portion of the game while it is still in development, meaning that by playing, you are actively helping the developers to identify and fix issues for a smoother Day 1 launch. The Beta is not a full version of the game, as it represents a mere fraction of the overall multiplayer experience. Specific details of what will be included in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta will be released over the coming week.”

In order to participate in the beta, gamers will need to preorder Black Ops 3 , either through a local retailer or via their platform’s online store. Those who preorder through a retailer, like GameStop, will need to use the code on their receipt to acquire a beta token, which they can get by following the instructions at CallofDuty.com/BlackOps3Beta. Those who preordered the beta online will be able to download the beta as soon as it’s available, without any additional steps. Also, according to Treyarch, the beta will be a 15 GB download.

The FAQ also informs players that Treyarchwill be conducting periodic maintenance during the beta, which will bring the servers down for a short time. There’s a good chance the developer will pick the least busy times to do this, but it’s definitely important for gamers to be aware of going into the beta.

Also, any progress gamers make in the beta will not transfer to the final game. The Black Ops 3 beta also won’t include the campaign or zombies modes, but instead will focus only on the multiplayer aspect of the game.
