Xbox One Moves Over 3 Million Consoles in 2013

It’s hard to believe that the next generation of console gaming has already arrived, but both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have already been on the market since this past November.

Sales for both respective platforms have been pretty stellaraccording to each console’s respective manufacturer, and now Microsoft has confirmed that its newest console has moved quite a few unitsin its short time on the market.

The house of Bill Gates took the liberty of announcing that the Xbox One has sold upwards of three million units worldwide in 2013, a feat that is nothing to scoff at. Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of marketing, strategy and business for Xbox, is understandably thrilled with the success that his company has been experiencing with its latest product.

Mehdi even posted a statement on Xbox Wire thanking the fans that helped the platform reach its current sales mark, and assuring those that are still searching for an Xbox One that more are being shipped just as fast as Microsoft can manufacture them.

“Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013. It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November. Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible.”

Given that the Xbox One has only shipped in 13 countries thus far — not to mention the next-gen exclusives arriving for the platform in the near future that are sure to drive even greater sales — 2014 should set Microsoft up quite nicely. Games like the numerically-lacking Halo (which has been reconfirmed for 2014) and Titanfall should prove to be fruitful exclusives for the company, but those games will be up against some stiff competition from rival companies.

Did you pick up an Xbox One in 2013, Ranters? Are you glad you bought/received the platform or would it have been better to hold off until 2014?
