Some of the most exciting prospects in gaming pertain to crossovers. It’s always exciting to see universes collide and Mojang’s indie smash-hit, Minecraft , has been a prime candidate for various crossovers ever since it first made its debut. Whether it’s player skins developed by the user base on PC or officially licensed ones created for the game on Xbox 360, there have been plenty of recognizable brands and characters to appear in the game.
Now it has been announced that the latest game crossing paths with Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will be none other than Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in a massive mash-up pack.
Following in the footsteps of the previously released Mass Effect 3 mash-up, the new Skyrim DLC will feature a bevy of new content that’s themed after the immensely successful fantasy game. 4J Studios, the developer responsible for porting Minecraft to 360, will be handling the content, effectively transforming Bethesda’s property into a very blocky version of its original self.
In all, the special downloadable content will include the following:
An exclusive Skyrim -themed texture set 40 character skins Themed menus and user interface Exclusive craftable items More than 20 iconic selections from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim original game soundtrackIf all that wasn’t already enough for fans of both properties, the mash-up will also include an entirely pre-made world that recreates classic areas from the mythical land of Skyrim. Whiterun, Riverwood, and Bleak Falls Barrow can all be found within the pre-made world, while the texture pack helps to really immerse players in the square-centric province.
Since both titles are wildly successful, it’s very likely that this new downloadable content will also find success. That said, it’s funny to note that at one point Mojang and Bethesda were locked in a lawsuitover the rights to the name Scrolls — a game that Mojang is still working on and adding to. Both companies have since reached an agreement and apparently relations were good enough to spawn this new pack.
There’s currently no release date set for the new DLC, but anxious fans can get their hands on the content for the first time during Minecon 2013 in Orlando, Florida between November 2nd and 3rd.
Will you be picking up the new DLC pack, Ranters? Which other mash-ups would you like to see?
