Oculus Rift Price Announced

Oculus Rift VR Headset is $599

The long wait for virtual reality headsets is coming to an end. Oculus Rift announced this week that pre-orders have begun for its VR headset, which is priced at $599. Units will start arriving in March for those who pre-order early.

Shortly after the announcement, potential buyers voiced their frustrations online at the cost, which is much higher than many assumed. The outcry sparked a response from Oculus founder Palmer Luckey, who apologized for the lack of proper messaging prior to the pricing announcement. However, despite the uproar, it seems pre-orders are doing well for the units.

PlayStation VR Expects to Sell Well

In response to the Oculus Rift pricing announcement, a report from research analysts claims the PlayStation VR headset will be similar in price, coming in somewhere between $400 and $600. Reports also claim Sony will sell almost 2 million unitsbefore the end of the year.

Considering the amount of hype surrounding VR over the last few years, it won’t be surprising to see PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift reach and even surpass these numbers with ease. However, a lot will depend on the quality of the headsets and whether or not gamers feel the cost matches the final product.

New Fallout 3 Speedrun World Record

While some gamers are happily trudging through Fallout 4 , at least one gamer continues to dedicate massive time to Fallout 3 , and for good reason. The player, known as Rydou, set a new world record in the game, finishing the game a whopping 6 seconds ahead of the former champ’s time. Considering how every millisecond counts in speedruns, this is a major development.

With a new world record set, there’s no doubt speedrunners will be reviewing the video and strategizing ways to beat the game even faster. It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes for a new record to emerge.

Major League Gaming Sold to Activision Blizzard

Activision Blizzard shocked the gaming world when it dropped an impressive $46 million to purchase one of the leading competitive gaming outfits, Major League Gaming (MLG). Shortly after word spread about the acquisition, the CEO of Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick, offered a few thoughtson the company’s move to buy MLG:

“Our acquisition of Major League Gaming’s business furthers our plans to create the ESPN of esports.”

It’ll be interesting to see what plans Activision Blizzard has in store for the competitive gaming company, and how they plan to reclaim their expense. Hopefully this will only help to improve the growing competitive gaming space.
