Welcome to the newest edition of Game Rant’s Open Discussion. Each week we highlight a few of the previous week’s news stories, and invite our readers to discuss these and other topics.

In today’s Open Discussion, we’ll be talking about the top selling console for December and the top selling game of 2015, along with information about the Halo World Championship Tour, the next game from Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment, and more.

PlayStation 4 Wins Console Battle in December 2015

Despite Microsoft’s best efforts to outsell Sony during the holiday buying season, PlayStation 4 came away as the best selling console for December 2015. In fact, December was PlayStation 4’s best sales month on record. Interestingly, it was also Xbox One’s best month, which is a good thing for the industry as a whole.

With PlayStation planning to release their PlayStation VR headset later this year, it’s possible Sony will see a new record-setting month for PlayStation 4 sales sometime this year. Moreover, it will be interesting to see how PlayStation VR affects PlayStation 4 sales.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Was the Best Selling Game of 2015

Despite massive hype and support for games like Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 nabbed the top spot for 2015 game sales. Not surprisingly, Black Ops 3 was also the top selling game in December 2015.

Fallout 4 , Star Wars Battlefront , and Mortal Kombat X all made the top 10 of highest sales in 2015, but they could not catch Call of Duty. Even Black Ops 3 ’s predecessor, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare , also claimed a spot in the top 10, despite selling fewer copies than Call of Duty: Ghosts .

While Respawn Entertainment works on Titanfall 2 , it seems the developer also has another project in the works, or at least on deck. A new job posting by Respawn Entertainment claims the developer is seeking a Senior Level Designerwho will be able to “embrace and contribute to the project vision” for a new third-person action game.

While the developer hasn’t released any details about the project, many gamers will be happy to know God of War III ’s former creative director, Stig Asmussen, is heading the project.

Amazon Prime Subscribers Receiving 20% Off New Game Releases and Pre-Orders

Amazon Prime members already have a plethora of benefits for their subscriptions. Now, there’s a new reason – at least for gamers – to join the service. Amazon announced this week that Prime members will receive 20 percent off new game pre-orders and purchases.

Considering the many highly anticipated games planned for this year, that deal is awfully enticing for gamers. With most games clocking in around $60, that means players need only pre-order or purchase nine games to make up the cost of the Amazon Prime membership. For die-hard gamers, that’s a tough deal to beat.

As eSports continues to grow in popularity worldwide, it seems ESPN isn’t backing down from its plan to feature more eSports both on TV and online. In fact, the sports organization announced this week that the Halo World Championship Tour will be at X Games Aspenlater this month, and will be aired on ESPN and streamed live online. Eight teams will compete for medals and prize money in the single-elimination bracket-style tournament onsite at X Games Aspen.

With eSports claiming a place in such a well-known and viewed event, it’ll be interesting to see how this affects the eSports world, and how gamers and sports enthusiasts react to the addition to the X Games. Hopefully the reception will be positive, and gaming fans will continue to see more tournaments of this nature broadcast on TV and online.
