Activision will no doubt be hoping that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be a return to form for the first-person shooter franchise.
will be a return to form for the first-person shooter franchise. After the disappointing reception to Call of Duty: Ghosts , and a sales dropfor the impressive Advanced Warfare , Black Ops 3 seems to be the publisher’s best chance of getting Call of Duty back to the top of the shooter world. With developer Treyarch given a three year development period, fans of the franchise are certainly expecting the title to deliver.
As it stands, has a lot of promise, including several features that give FPS players reasons to be excitedabout the upcoming title. With an added level of customization, and a single-player campaign that has built-in replayability through co-op play and open areas instead of linear objectives, the title has plenty of new features for the franchise. Not only that, but Black Ops 3 also returns to a number of iconic elements from Treyarch’s series, including the well-loved Nuketown multiplayer map.
There was only one flaw to be found – Activision had not announced the title for any old-gen consoles, instead focusing on the game’s release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Now, however, owners of former generation devices have cause for celebration. According to a new post from the Activision Blog, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is going to be released for PS3 and Xbox 360.
The old-gen version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is not being developed by Treyarch directly, however, as Activision has revealed that it has turned to Beenox and Mercenary Technology to create the Xbox 360 and PS3 ports of the title. There are also going to be several differences between the current and former generation versions of Black Ops 3 . According to Activision, the highly-anticipated co-op campaignis going to be scaled back from four-player to two-player, whilst other changes in functionality will be revealed in the future.
Although PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will be happy about the news, the same cannot be said about Wii U players. A version of the title was rumored to be in developmentfor Nintendo’s console, after Activision’s support Twitter page said that fans should “stay tuned” for more Wii U releases. Unfortunately, the publisher has now confirmed that no port of the game in development, stating that “there’s no version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for Nintendo Wii U planned.”
Nonetheless, the move to release the title for old-gen devices is still one that is bound to make gamers yet to make the jump to the new generation pleased. Other developers have recently struggled to bring games to consoles with less power, with Ubisoft stating that no more titles would be developedfor PS3 or Xbox 360 . Old-gen players may not have access to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s multiplayer beta, but many will no doubt be glad to have a version of the game.
