In typical Call of Duty fashion, the Black Ops 2 Revolution DLC has had a somewhat interesting journey toward official confirmation.

has had a somewhat interesting journey toward official confirmation. Bringing five new maps and a new Zombie game mode, Revolution was first leaked, then confirmed ( accidentally), before finally being outed and paired with an extensive walkthrough videooutlining the incoming content.

In an effort to remind everyone that no game series carries more clout than CoD , Activision has called on the talents of Peter Stormare ( Minority Report , Fargo ) for their latest Revolution trailer. Dubbed ‘The Replacer,’ Stormare will be on hand to help cover all the aspects of a gamer’s life, now that the DLC is sure to swallow them up for the foreseeable future.

Famous faces in Call of Duty advertisingis nothing new, but Stormare’s appearance must rank among our favorites. And although the trailer may be all in jest, there is a bit of truth to the claims made of Treyarch‘s upcoming DLC. Adding four new maps – Hydro, Grind, Downhill, and Mirage – is going to give the existing player base more than enough reason to expand their daily/weekly/hourly gaming sessions. But then we get to the zombies.

As if the Nuketown Zombies map coming to PS3 and PCplayers wasn’t enough to bump playtime, Revolution will be introducing Die Rise, a Zombie map set in a crumbling skyscraper. Bringing verticality to the game mode (along with some labyrinthine, unlit corridors) will be making the mode more like living in a zombie movie than ever before. Thanks to the new Hunted mode, that’s not where the changes end.

With the new Turned game mode, the player takes the role of one of several zombified characters pursuing a single shooter; kill the uninfected, and take his place. The new spin on multiplayer is an interesting one, and one of the Revolution additions we’re most interested in trying out for ourselves.

Which aspect of the Revolution DLC are you most looking forward to? The new modes, or merely taking the existing multiplayer to new locations? Sound off in the comments.

Black Ops 2: Revolution releases first for the Xbox 360 on Jan. 28, 2012.
