‘Mighty Number 9’: One-Hit Death Mode, New Trailer, and Collector’s Statue

Nostalgic gamers may not be getting the Mega Man sequel that they have always wanted any time soon, but thanks to an incredibly successful KickStarter campaign , the spirit of that franchise will live on in Mighty Number 9 .
. The crowd funding scene is full of projects that are targeting fans of long-dead franchises lately with spiritual successors to Banjo-Kazooie and Castelvania also on the way.
paved the way for these newer projects, and (after raising over $900,000) the game is almost ready for its retail release.
Although many backers secured their copies of Mighty Number 9 during the game’s campaign, the creators still need to make sure that the product’s packaging will appeal to the mass market to help generate sales when the game launches in September. To ensure that the relatively small game doesn’t get lost in all of the upcoming E3 commotion, Deep Silverhas released a slew of new details to keep Mighty Number 9 in the minds of future players.
The new trailer gives fans a closer look at the game’s 9 bosses that the protagonist will need to fight his way to (and then through). One of the exciting new details shared in the press release is that preordering the game will grant consumers access to the Retro Hero Mode DLC. This add-on content puts the hero, Beck, in an 8-bit inspired suit and gives players the chance to tackle the painfully difficult one-hit death mode.
The retro suit is limited to shoppers who preorder the highly-anticipated late summer gameor purchase the DLC, but that isn’t the case for the ultra-difficult mode. The core game will also have a one-hit death mode, but players will need to unlock it by completing a specific achievement. More details will be available about that process later.
In addition to details about Retro Hero Mode, Deep Silver also unveiled the limited edition collector’s statue that will be included with the game’s Signature Edition. The collector’s set retails at $59.99 and includes the statue, the game, and a metallic foil signature from legendary creator Keiji Inafune.
As an added bonus for Sony fans, all PlayStation versions of the game with be cross-buy enabled, meaning that it can be played on any supported Sony platform. The cross-buy deal for PS3, PS4, and Vita is valid for both the digital and retail versions of the game.
We are pretty excited to see how well the title uses the power of contemporary gaming engines to create a platforming experience that feels like the 90s, and the inclusion of a one-hit death mode is a good sign that the developers are very in touch with what the core demographic is looking for.
