Keiji Inafune Reveals Mega Man Legends Successor

234
Keiji Inafune is one of gaming’s most celebrated developers, known for cultivating the Mega Man series at Capcom, as well as working on some of Capcom’s biggest franchises over the years, such as Resident Evil and Dead Rising .

. Now Inafune, without Capcom, is hoping to find the same success with a brand new IP that may actually be a spiritual successor to.

Developed alongside his team at Comcept, Inafune has begun teasing a full reveal for a game known as Red Ash: The Indelible Legend . Announced via a teaser trailer that offers a glimpse at the characters and concept art, the game is scheduled to have a full reveal tomorrow, July 4th, at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles.

The reason that the game is being revealed at the Anime Expo has to deal with its clearly anime-inspired art style, not unlike the art seen in Comcept’s own, and furthermore, the game is being created in conjunction with Studio 4C. For the uninitiated, Studio 4C is an anime company based out of Japan that has worked on a number of anime video games, TV shows, and movies in the past, including the six-part anime film Halo Legends.

Virtually nothing is known about Red Ash so far, except for its art style. However, language in the teaser trailer heavily implies that the game is meant to be a spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends , like how Mighty No. 9 is a spiritual successor to the core Mega Man series.

The reason that many are assuming that Red Ash is a spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends is because it uses the word “legends” repeatedly throughout the teaser trailer. Set to a catchy beat, the trailer states right off the bat, “Some legends shape our lives…Some legends leave us with the promise of a new tomorrow…And some legends herald greatness, only to lose their way.”

Furthermore, the title of the game further cements the connection to Mega Man Legends . The Indelible Legend subtitle is an obvious reference, but consider the Japanese title of Mega Man Legends , Rockman Dash . Red Ash is really close to “Re- Dash “, which is likely not a coincidence.

This should be great news for fans of Mega Man Legends . Capcom has drawn the ire of its hardcore fans after cancelling the planned Mega Man Legends 3 for 3DS(a cancellation which came shortly after the departure of Keiji Inafune from Capcom) and largely ignoring the Mega Man fans in general. If Capcom won’t make the Mega Man games fans want, it looks like Keiji Inafune would be more than happy to oblige.

Many questions still remain about Red Ash , but hopefully its full reveal at the Anime Expo tomorrow will shed some light on these issues. For example, will Red Ash be crowdfunded like Mighty No. 9 ? Does the similar art styles between Red Ash and Mighty No. 9 suggest that they are set within the same universe? What platforms will the game be available on?

It seems likely that Comcept will once again explore their crowdfunding options when looking to bring Red Ash to life. After all, Mighty No. 9 reached its Kickstarter funding goal of $900,000 in just two days, and what started out as a relatively low key project has now blossomed to include a full-on retail release.

Platforms and release information for Red Ash: The Indelible Legend are not yet available, but the game is scheduled to have a full reveal tomorrow, July 4th at the Anime Expo emanating from the Los Angeles Convention Center.
