Destiny ‘s Iron Banner event returns next week, with Bungie’s action-MMO competing for fans’ attention during Ubisoft’s beta test period for The Division .
Destiny developers are vying for gamers’ attention with the return of the Iron Banner beginning next week on Tuesday, January 26, 10:00AM PST and ending on Tuesday, February 2, 12:00 AM PST by including the Rift mode, and not Control. Of course, to the victors go the spoils in Destiny ‘s limited-time Crucible event, but fresh gear may not be enough to sway some gaming fans away from Ubisoft’s official beta test date for The Division , which is set to begin on the exact same day as the Iron Banner.
With Rift being the mode of choice in Iron Banner this time around, should Guardians carry the Spark to a win, they’ll earn some swag from Lord Saladin, as well as some post-game drops. The former will yield players a Class Item and a timed-exclusive PlayStation Class Item at Rank 3, a Chest Piece and Scout Rifle at Rank 4, and a Fusion Rifle at Rank 5, while the latter drops include Boots at Rank 2, a Chest Piece, Scout Rifle, and timed-exclusive PlayStation Helmet at Rank 3, and a Fusion Rifle at Rank 4.
As some gaming fans may be aware, Ubisoft’s Martin Hultberg has said The Division plans to set itself apart from Bungie’s sci-fi shooter, by improving upon Destiny ‘s fantastical elements with more engaging, real world scenarios. Fans who are looking forward to the Iron Banner, though, can get a gander at the new gear below, but The Division ‘s director may have swayed a lot of fans into trying out the gritty style of his forthcoming MMO instead of grinding for loot in Lord Saladin’s challenge.
The Iron Banner is obviously one of Destiny ‘s most popular elements, so it’s pretty convenient that Bungie scheduled its return right around the date of The Division ‘s test. Of course, should the decision to do so have been calculated, it’s a smart move on the Destiny developer’s part, because Guardians have been thirsting for something new to do with the game, especially with its recent dry spell. As it happens, one of our writers’ opinion regarding Year 2has him losing hope for whether or not Bungie can sustain the energy that made the title great in first place.
Of course, Bungie has promised a stellar new raid for 2016 with additional DLC, including an experience that’s supposedly larger than anything seen since The Taken King . However, with this year being stacked full of extremely enticing releases such as Ubisoft’s The Division , instead of refreshing Destiny ‘s content, perhaps it’s time for Bungie to release the sequel.
