While much of the focus in 2015 is trained solely on Fallout 4 and its post-apocalyptic Boston landscape, there are plenty of future titles that still have gamers’ attention.

and its post-apocalyptic Boston landscape, there are plenty of future titles that still have gamers’ attention. Games like Uncharted 4 , The Legend of Zelda for Wii U, and Kingdom Hearts 3 all have their fair share of excitement building, and decidedly so considering the gaps between franchise installments.

For Kingdom Hearts especially, it’s been a very long time since a mainline entry, with Kingdom Hearts 2 releasing on the PS2 back in 2005. In fact, some might say that Kingdom Hearts proper has been out of the limelight so long that some fans might not understand why there is so much hype surrounding the franchise.

Well, it looks like Square Enix is acutely aware of that fact, and apparently they are doing something about it. At least that’s what a recent resume listing suggests.

According to the resume, Square Enix is hard at work on something called Kingdom Hearts 2.9 for the PS3 and PS4 consoles. The listing also offered details about Kingdom Hearts 3, specifically with regards to multiplayer, and eager fans can read more about that here.

For Kingdom Hearts 2.9 , however, it sounds as if Square Enix is finally bringing the mainline series to Sony’s current-gen console, likely in remastered form. Apparently the midpoint title has been in development for some time now, as the Square Enix employee in question says they were working on the game for about 10 months.

-Boss planning

Some will remember that both Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix have both already released, so presumably this 2.9 release will be a collection of those two games on one PS3 or PS4 disc. Ideally, the collection will include bonus content, like extended endings and story bits, but nothing has been confirmed thus far.

Since the release is also targeting the PS4, we wouldn’t be surprised if Square Enix threw in some of the 3DS Kingdom Hearts releases as well, giving players the full story thus far. They will likely need as much info as possible when Kingdom Hearts 3 launches, considering the upcoming game will be the final entry in the ‘Dark Seeker’ chapter.

Ultimately, it’s up to Square Enix to make Kingdom Hearts 2.9 official, but chances are the company is waiting for the right moment. They have teased plans for “secret” reveals at Tokyo Game Show 2015, so that seems like a possible candidate for a Kingdom Hearts 2.9 announcement. But even if they just wanted to drop the news on a regular weekday, we’re sure fans would jump for joy regardless.
