Players who have been eagerly anticipating the closed beta for the bloody and violenthave finally received the news they’ve been waiting for, as Bethesda revealed the upcoming closed beta dates which kick off later this month. Even though it released almost two years ago, players that remembered to redeem the code received from their preordered a copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order will be granted access to the closed beta for DOOM starting on March 31 to April 3. As of right now, this is the only way to access the closed beta.

Also accompanying the news is a brand new multiplayer focused trailer, giving players a quick look at what will be awaiting them once the beta doors open. Bethesda has confirmed that the closed beta will show off Team Deathmatch and the recently announced Warpath modeon the maps Heatwave and Infernal. At launch, players can also expect to see additional game modes such as freeze tag, domination, and clan arena. Players will also have an opportunity to transform into one of the many horrific demons from the game, dishing out brutal kills to other players while they try to steal the power away for themselves.

In addition to Team Deathmatch and the revamped King of the Hill mode known as Warpath, players will have access to a slew of new and familiar weapons, gadgets, and grenades including personal teleporters, lightning guns, gauss rifles, and the iconic super shotgun. Based on the trailer, the multipayer in DOOM promises to be lightning fast and violent, something that longtime fans should be quite happy with.

Developer, id Software has also revealed that the studio has teamed up with Certain Affinityin developing the multiplayer portion of DOOM . Certain Affinity is a company well versed in working on multiplayer shooters as they’ve also assisted in the development of games like Call of Duty: Ghosts , Halo 4 , and Halo: The Master Chief Collection .

To satisfy longtime fans who were a little miffed at the recently revealed box art, id Software ran a poll for players to vote on an alternative box art cover, similar to what Irrational Games did for the launch of BioShock Infinite . Ultimately, fans opted for the second option with is a modern take on the classic DOOM box art, where Doom Guy is fighting off what seems to be an endless wave of demonic enemies.
