Xbox executive Phil Spencer shares a message with his Twitter followers indicating that, with just 11 weeks left, Microsoft’s E3 planning has been successful so far.
Phil Spencer sent out the tweet, seen below, to illustrate just how confident the Xbox boss is heading into one of the more strange Electronic Entertainment Expos in recent memory. Huge industry influencers like Activision Blizzard won’t be at E3 2016, and there will be a lot of pressure on companies like Sony and Microsoft to deliver captivating presentations and content as a result. For his part, Spencer seems untroubled by the recent changes to E3, indicating that he believes the different teams behind Microsoft’s E3 events have done a “great job” focusing on what’s being featured on the Xbox Onein the coming year.

Microsoft hasn’t announced any official plans for its E3 2016 yet, but in recent years Microsoft has kicked off its long week of presentations and demos on the Monday morning of E3 week. Fans can expect more of the same this year, as Microsoft and other developers and publishers attempt to prove that E3 is just as relevant nowas it has always been.
Of course, some aspects of the traditional E3 are best left avoided, as Microsoft learned the hard way a week ago. Phil Spencer had to publicly apologize for Xbox’s GDC Party, which featured exotic dancers dressed in Catholic schoolgirl outfits. Given the public backlash that the incident generated for Microsoft, the gaming giant will likely scale back the excessive partying and focus on how to top its E3 2015 presentation, which featured the famous backward compatibilityannouncement as well as a Gears of War 4 review.
Microsoft’s E3 2016 might also address another elephant in the room: Sony recently announced an upgraded PS4 model is in the worksto what can only be described as a very mixed reaction from the gaming community, while Phil Spencer has previously hinted towards a future where the Xbox One has its hardware upgraded rather than replaced. Microsoft’s upgrade philosophy will likely need to be elaborated upon after Sony’s announcement brought what many believed to be a few years away to the forefront of industry discussion in 2016.
It will be interesting to see if Microsoft can also capitalize on the public’s anxieties over already being offered an upgraded PS4 much in the same way Sony capitalized on the Xbox One’s initial release stumbles. That slow start allowed Sony to build a huge lead on Microsoft’s current gen console sales, something that Phil Spencerhimself has admitted could be insurmountable at this point.
